Testimonials

You just have no idea how much the Little Starz does for J.  Being on the autism spectrum, we as parents are constantly seeking opportunities for him to be in different social situations than his normal routine.  Participating in this program gives J an opportunity to get involved with new people as well as get in front of an audience and speak publicly.  Therapeutic affects aside, he LOVES it.  He has a lot of fun, and when one performance is done, he can’t wait for the next set of practices to start.

Every director, teacher, student, and cast mate that I have met in MCCA has been extremely friendly, accommodative, supportive, and eager to help me succeed.

What does the MCCA Theatre Program mean to me? It means everything to me. I've only been with Mozingo Theatre for a few months, and I can already say that I have found where I belong. I have never been so easily accepted into a group before in my life. I feel like I'm a part of something, and not just a third wheel. I've been more social than I've ever been, and I have Autism. Everybody there is so helpful, supportive, and friendly. I love that we hang out after every show as well. I didn't think much of them before, but then I actually went to one, and I had the best time of my life. I feel like I have a second family in theatre group, and as I'm typing this, it's hard not to cry, because my experiences with these people thus far have been...well...astonishing. That's what the theatre program means to me, and...it's the most amazing thing ever.

I am in college studying vocal performance and theater working towards a career in opera and musical theater. Before I came to Mozingo, I did not have much theater experience under my belt. A friend introduced me to the program, and I quickly fell in love with the teachers and the people! I have been in five shows with Mozingo and have learned so much and have built my résumé tremendously! There is not a word to describe how much Mozingo has meant to me! I have had many great experiences and it just keeps getting better! Thank you so much for the program!!! I don't know where I would be without the program.

But the greatest success story of MCCA in the eyes of the "Mozingo Kids" and their parents is the loving, caring, safe, accepting, inclusive environment experienced through participation in MCCA programs.  MCCA is an oasis of joy for these kids in a world of bullying, ridicule and cruelty.  While I know it's an environment you set out to create, MCCA is seen as the reason it exists.  MCCA is a Win, Win, Win situation for EVERYONE it touches.

As a person with disabilities, I have found it harder to find opportunities to explore my lifelong dream of participating in musical theater.  Wendi and everyone involved in the MainStage Theater Group welcomed me with open arms & gave me that opportunity!  I'm looking forward to becoming more involved in musical theater & participating in other Fine Arts Academy programs like Vocal Fusion & dance lessons!

MCCA has been a blessing for me.  Before Mozingo I felt alone and like I had no one. Then I joined Mozingo and I was welcomed with open arms.  MCCA has helped me realize that I'm not alone and made me feel loved; and I'm forever thankful for that.  Mozingo has also helped improve my acting and shown me true teamwork.

MCCA has allowed me to use my abilities and learn so much more from the director(s) and other cast members.  Further, they have been a real opportunity to build a strong bond and community with other actors.  Perhaps above all: I've been so inspired by the level of talent among these folks, so many of them still very young, and that's helped me grow, too.

Being part of this program has taught me what I can actually accomplish, and I know I'm not done growing yet. Everyone there means so much to me and would do anything for me, and they all know I would do the same for them. To me, Mozingo is no longer just a place and the people are no longer strangers. It's a second home with my second family.

Sincerely,

This is the first time I have been around a group of performing children that I have not observed a critical spirit within the group. There is something to be said of a director who can have as much talent as is in MCCA and not have the criticism of others.

Under Wendi’s direction and training, B has come out of very deep shell. In the past she has had issues with bullies, rude remarks and various other incidents.  Last summer, Wendi cast B in a lead role, from the time B not only came out of her shell, she took bullies on and stood up to them by telling a teacher and not letting them run her life at school.  There is no possible way we can ever thank the MCCA staff, and all the performers that B has become friends with for allowing for this.

We have watched our oldest daughter, who has a speech challenge, become completely comfortable with standing in front of a group of people and performing.  Our 3rd daughter was desperately needing an avenue to express herself creatively and socially and Mozingo has helped her do both.  Our 5 year old, has grown leaps and bounds, learning to memorize lines, be part of a team, audition, and make new friends. Each week when we participate in rehearsals and performances, it is apparent to us that this program is one we will continue with for many years to come because of the blessings it has brought our family and the pure enjoyment my children have in participating.

This performance group has helped me build my resume in extreme ways, adding show after show of experience, and giving me chances to use what I learn in my private vocal lessons. But more importantly, it's built up my confidence.  I've recently had some extreme stress over going away to college, fearing
I'm not prepared to hold my own on a college level. But the performances this spring, boosted by the extreme love and support I've received from my MCCA family, has helped me regain so much of the confidence I had lost.

Just letting you know, again, how much we love the theater arts program thru MCCA  L has participated in 2 plays and absolutely loves it.  It has given her so much confidence, not only in music, but in herself.  I have watched her blossom into a performer.  She has met such a wonderful network of friends and mentors which has also helped her.  It is a very unique set of kids that are so talented, supportive of each other, have a mutual interest in music and theater and also and have such a great time together.

During my time with Mozingo I have had some of the best moments of my life with some of the best people I have had the pleasure of knowing.

I am amazed at Wendi's dedication to this program.  It is a gift to us and to the community.  The productions far exceed my expectations and we look forward to all of the opportunities it continues to provide.

Now, I am preparing to go to college and I can honestly say that performing with MCCA is one of the reasons I am now pursuing a degree in vocal performance. My comfort and confidence levels on stage have grown so much since beginning with MCCA, and this newfound confidence and absolute love of performing has opened up so many doors for me and allowed me amazing opportunities in the last 2 years. I would not be where I am today as a performer without the amazing guidance and experience I gained while rehearsing at the Stage every week for MCCA productions.

The people of MCCA are kind and love everyone for who they are and don't care about flaws, because for what one person lacks in one area, another makes up for it. We are one with one another:  A family.  Because I joined MCCA and all the people in it my depression has mostly gone away. Without MCCA, I probably wouldn't be here today.

My son’s self-esteem and confidence have soared and this has carried over to other aspects of his life, including improving his school work and his time management skills, and these are benefits that will last a lifetime.  In a time when the arts are being cut from academic programs, it is imperative that the MCCA thrive.   The productions are outstanding and the level of professionalism is second to none.  I will continue to support it 100% as I am sure other parents and performers will.  While economic times are challenging for many, I am willing to make this investment in my child and the program.  My only wish is that MCCA could build a theater for these magnificent performers to call their own.  With that commitment, the program would grow by leaps and bounds.

We have watched our daughter rediscover her confidence and continue to pursue her love of the arts.  Little Starz has given L a performing outlet and has made her feel valued.

The talent of your performers is unlike any of the shows we have seen locally. E loves going to local high schools and small venues to see plays and musicals. Little Women was by far the best we have seen. The talent of your performers belong on a much larger stage and I'm sure we'll see them there someday. The costumes were beautiful and all of them perfect. An amazing feat for a show like Little Women. E has decided she would like to audition for the next show. After talking with you and seeing a show firsthand we are thrilled she wants to see if this will be an opportunity for her to be on stage instead of the audience. We have not found any other programs that we thought could work for E as her self-confidence and learning delays have held her back. There's not another program out there that would even give her a chance to audition - and no other program we've looked at even matches the quality of the programs at MCCA.
